Voices from the Ground: The Experience of the 2026 Ebola Outbreak in Uganda
The School of Public Health at University College Cork, in collaboration with ASPHER, will host an online webinar, “Voices from the Ground: The Experience of the 2026 Ebola Outbreak in Uganda,” on Wednesday, July 8, from 8:30–10:00 AM ET.
This webinar will feature perspectives from the Ugandan Ministry of Health and others involved in the outbreak response, with discussion focused on emergency preparedness, risk communication, and the grassroots reality of responding to Ebola in Uganda. Centering the experiences of frontline health workers, community volunteers, and survivors, the session will explore real-world response gaps, cultural barriers, and the importance of localized, survivor-led public health strategies.
Speakers and contributors include Professor Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health, Uganda; Dr. Atek Kagirita, Assistant Commissioner for Public Health Laboratory Services, Ministry of Health, Uganda; and Fatia Kiyange, Executive Director of the Center for Health, Human Rights and Development.
