What inspired your interest in public health?

During my time as a Medical Officer of Health, I saw how proper nutrition and data-driven insights can transform outcomes for mothers and children. This experience reinforced my commitment to health promotion and community engagement.

What public health issue or area are you most passionate about, and why?

My passion for public health lies in maternal and child health, with a focus on nutrition, health promotion, and epidemiology.

Briefly describe the TIPH Global project you are supporting and your role in it.

The Riegelman This Is Public Health (TIPH) Global Grant Project at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, documents and disseminates Sri Lanka’s public health success stories through a multilingual podcast series. As the Student Ambassador, I support expert engagement, podcast hosting, and public health knowledge dissemination to strengthen learning among public health personnel.

What do you hope your project will contribute to your institution, community, or the broader public health field?

I hope this project strengthens the Faculty of Medicine’s leadership in public health communication while creating a sustainable platform for sharing Sri Lanka’s public health achievements. By making expert knowledge accessible through podcasts, the initiative will support lifelong learning, inspire future public health professionals, and contribute to stronger public health practice nationally.
