The Global Network for Academic Public Health (GNAPH) expressly and unequivocally condemns the horrific terrorist attacks, perpetrated by Hamas, with the aim to murder and abduct non-combatant Israeli civilians. We also highlight the critical need to protect innocent citizens and relief workers in Gaza, in observance of human rights and international conventions. The unfolding humanitarian crisis is already severely testing the public health infrastructure. The physical and mental health of all those affected must be addressed. We call for restraint from the warring factions and for the immediate release all hostages. We call for urgent diplomatic and humanitarian action to end the conflict and protect lives. We salute the efforts of public health professionals and systems on both sides of the conflict and express our solidarity with them in their difficult, dangerous, and selfless work.
This conflict infringes upon the public health profession’s deeply held principles of human rights and social justice. Peace is Public Health.
