Landmark Workforce Resolution Adopted at the World Health Assembly

At the recent World Health Assembly, global leaders adopted a landmark resolution to strengthen the health and care workforce by 2030. The resolution calls on governments to better support health workers, many of whom are facing burnout and resource shortages in the wake of COVID-19, climate-related disasters, and conflict. It also urges an end to exploitative recruitment from vulnerable health systems in the Global South and prioritizes investment in workforce education, training, and retention, with a special focus on emergency preparedness.

The resolution explicitly highlights the role of schools and programs of public health in supporting WHO efforts to build a resilient, skilled, and equitable workforce. GNAPH, which has contributed technical expertise to the WHO Roadmap since 2022, stands ready to help implement these strategies.
